After a year as a newbie smoker

I looked around and decided to get the Blaze Kamado because of the aluminum construction and stainless steel components. I would definitely buy it again just for that. I can say that most of the challenges have been from not having much experience smoking, and the Blaze has been very forgiving. It holds temps well and cleans up like a dream. I just throw everything in the dishwasher, scrape down the sides into the ash pan to easily lift out and, ready to go again. I got the half moon stainless deflector plates and the rotisserie kit. I can use the rotisserie drip pan for a water bath for long smokes. After having given up all hope to become a master, I bought a temp controller and blower fan with a universal adapter and was able to find a company that makes a universal receiver that fits the Blaze. My husband rigged a basket that fits perfectly so I can just lift out the unused charcoal, which would be really messy otherwise. So that would be one area for improvement, as it took a long time to research optimizing and I am not sure everyone would have the time to find the gadgets here and there to make it work. But it was worth it. The only other thing I wish I had was better access to the bottom with a bigger vent. I would love to slip in a tray so I can add wood chips during a smoke. If this ever came out with a larger size and more accessories, I bet one of my kids would be ecstatic to get this as a hand-me-down because I wouldn't be able to resist.

Don't touch the truck, dog or grill the wife you will bring

There is a learning curve. I could set it to run 180 for as long as my heart desires. I smoke, broil rotisserie you name it you can do it. Close the air vents and reuse the charcoal. Very efficient, it has serial number on the bottom, I carved my name and phone number with a hammer and a screwdriver when I was smoking. I have been a full time camper for 2 yrs very durable can't see how anyone could not love this. Only con is if it is 400 on the inside it is 400 on the outside. I have used this in Pa too Florida It is heavy.

Modern tech meets Kamado for the win

This grill is a work of art, indestructible and works like a charm. The fit and finish is 5 star, machining is aircraft quality. It was a treat for me and it's well worth every penny. It holds heat like a Boss and I mean it. I bought in November of 2021 and have only used it in Alaskan winter. it is the real deal. 100% would recommend. It's between sizes of a "Green Egg Large and XL. Plenty bog enough for Turkey, Prime Rib, Brisket of smaller items for 6-8. Can't wait to get the rotisserie kit and the indirect charcoal basket. I have the stainless handles and the stainless rolling cart. They are equally as well made. Forget the price and buy this grill. put it on your homeowners insurance and in your will because it will outlast you.

Zero regrets......only wish I bought it sooner!

I will not besmirch my prior ceramic kamado grill as it served me well for many years BUT I am glad I no longer have to worry about cracking fireboxes, flaking glaze and rusty steel bands. This Blaze Kamado is bombproof. Period. Maintaining and adjusting temperature is a breeze like any other kamado after a brief learning curve. I have zero issues maintaining 225 all day on a single load, 550 for pizza cooks and even 700 for a short time as a "self cleaning" mode. I have seen some concerns about maintaining temps in the cold or during rain but I have had zero issues. I find no downsides to this aluminum kamado vs. it's ceramic counterparts. It may cost a bit more but for me it was worth it for the heavy duty build........the hinge, grates, vents are all a step above in quality and stoutness. Not much else to say, simply a fantastic kamado......great job Blaze! ******I did have a warranty issue with my main cooking grate shortly after purchase (a failed weld) and a replacement was sent to me with zero hassle. I am less concerned about the issue (things happen) than I am with how the company dealt with it and I gotta say they were outstanding.

Very happy with purchase

This is my first Kamado and first charcoal grill. I have been able to both grill and smoke and have a solid base to learn on. The grill is ridiculously sturdy, easy to clean and just a great piece of equipment

Best grill ever!

This is by far the best grill I have ever used! It makes grilling so easy for the perfect family cookout! Can't wait to do a slow and low cook on it as it definitely holds temps more steady than any other grill I have used. I would absolutely buy this grill again, but definitely will not have to because of its indestructible construction!

Pros:

  • Aluminum construction is significantly lighter in weight than traditional ceramic kamado grills
  • The lift-assist hinges allow for very easy opening and closing
  • The grill is considerably more durable and resistant to rust than ceramic grills

Cons:

  • The full-width ash pan is a nice and effective feature, but you have to remove all three grates in order to lift it out for cleanup
  • Besides the rotisserie, it’s lacking in accessories that give you more cooking versatility
  • The grill is hotter to the touch than its ceramic counterparts, so take extra care when standing near or managing the grill

The Skinny:

  • Solid cast aluminum kamado grill is an industry first
  • Backed by Blaze’s best-in-class lifetime warranty
  • Boasts incredible cooking performance
  • Durable construction is virtually indestructible
  • Blends in with stainless steel outdoor kitchen appliances

By: BBQGuys Staff

This grill is the toughest kamado grill on the market. It’s backed by a best-in-class, lifetime warranty, and it looks and cooks great too. My main takeaways from using this grill are the durable aluminum construction, excellent heat retention, and the easy lift-assist hood that makes opening and closing the grill so easy.

Quality
A perfect blend of durability and affordability results in exceptional grilling quality

  • The Blaze Kamado’s aluminum construction offers superior durability to traditional ceramic kamados. The cast aluminum alloy results in a rust-proof design that can withstand the elements, making the grill practically indestructible. Another benefit is it allows you to use any fuel source—even regular charcoal briquettes and lighter fluid. Traditional ceramic kamados are porous, meaning they absorb moisture and odors. This helps them retain heat, but because they’re so porous, using lighter fluid or charcoal briquettes pre-soaked in lighter fluid ruins ceramic grills. I recommend steering clear of these anyway and using only natural lump charcoal, but the advantage of the Blaze Kamado being aluminum is that it won’t absorb the lighter fluid and ruin your grill.

  • Blaze Kamado in freestanding cart with tool hooks

The rust-resistant nature of aluminum means that you won’t need to replace the top exhaust cap, which is a commonly faulty component on ceramic kamados.

The silver-colored finish and 304 stainless accents also seamlessly blend in with other stainless steel equipment in your outdoor kitchen for a cohesive look.

Inside the grill, you'll find a 20-inch stainless steel hex grill grate made of 12 mm 304-grade stainless steel that provides a large surface area and excellent heat retention for those beautiful sear marks everyone wants.

Performance
This grill ranks among the best Kamados on the market

  • As far as cooking performance is concerned, this is among the best of them! Heat retention is one of the most important features of kamado grills, which are known for holding their temperature during long cooks, and the Blaze Kamado is no exception. I found the thick cast aluminum walls to hold heat just as well as the ceramic kamados. I also like the unique tongue-and-groove design that seals the grill lid tight to the base, allowing little to no heat escape. More heat and more smoke in the grill means tastier food on your plate. And unlike the felt gaskets on other kamado grills, this won’t need occasional replacing.

  • Grilling filet mignon and lobster tails for four on the Blaze Kamado grill

By shaping the grates hexagonally, Blaze gives food more contact with the cooking surface, which produces more pronounced sear marks. Along with the solid heat retention, the heat control is top-notch. The lower air intake features a multi-function door with a dial for precise control and the built-in, cast aluminum top air vent allows you to easily set the vent opening, which stays in place even when lifting the lid.

Features
Packed with innovative features, this grill offers unparalleled convenience and versatility

The stainless steel hex grill grates feature two hinged sections for easily adding charcoal or wood chunks. Underneath the main cooking grid is an 18-inch, 304 stainless steel, multi-purpose grate that gives you the flexibility to cook food on this and the top grate at the same time, which almost doubles your cooking space. You can also set a pan of liquid or a heat deflector on it when cooking with indirect heat.

  • Under this multi-purpose grate lies a 304 stainless steel charcoal grate. When it's time to clean out the ashes, I love the full-width, lift-out ash pan. That pan is more convenient and effective than scraping out the ashes on a regular ceramic kamado.

  • Blaze aluminum kamado grill cooking surface with sides lifted up to access coals

Finally, I love the 304 series stainless steel lift-assist hinge on the lid. It makes it so easy to open and close the lid, it practically feels like air, especially compared to other kamados which tend to be bulky and heavy.

Question:
Putting this in an outdoor kitchen. What is the dimension from bottom of stand to bottom of hinge so that I can get the correct height on the countertop
Was This Helpful?
Answer:
Hi Jeff. From feet to hinge is roughly 20 inches. You can get an idea of the dimensions here: cdn.shocho.co/sc-specsheets/Kamado-Grill-User-Manual-04-2019.pdf

Question:
Is the outside hot to the touch when in use or like a ceramic Kamado that you could touch without being burned? Also is there any reason the grill cannot be installed into an island with a granite cut out like in the third picture in your website?
Was This Helpful?
Answer:
Hi Bill! The outside of the grill will be hot when in use, please use high heat gloves. The grill can be installed using non-combustible materials only, so a granite cut out would be fine.

Question:
Can I fit a 15 - 18 lb turkey in this? How about a full bone in prime rib?
Was This Helpful?
Answer:
Hey! It is large enough to cover that size turkey, people have claimed to have fit two turkeys. I would just say for the prime rib, you would not want it to be too long, so it may need to be split in half. Hope this information helps!

Question:
Does the mid-level 18-inch cooking grate have an hinged option like the 20-inch top grate? Reason is it's a little tough sometimes to get the grate seated correctly as well as getting it back out. If it doesn't, I encourage Blaze to consider this a great option to offer.
Was This Helpful?
Answer:
Hi Robert. No, only the 20-inch top grate is hinged.

Question:
Hello, I recently purchased this item and will be installing it in an outdoor kitchen. My question / concern is the amount of heat that will be generated below the counter top as I plan to have the bottom of the unit completely inside of the island to avoid a kiddo from touching while hot (with a door to adjust lower damper). I see this installed using this method but want to ensure a long slow cook will not damage the kitchen or cause any other unsafe conditions. Thanks!
Was This Helpful?
Answer:
Hi Brett, the Kamado cannot be installed into combustible materials or it will start a fire. It can be safely installed into non combustible materials as long as there is a gap between the kamado and the counter/counter top.

Question:
In the Q&A comments, it is recommended that a minimum of 31" of depth is needed against a wall in order to open lid. Does this mean that the grill will stick out 6" in front from a standard 25" countertop depth?
Was This Helpful?
Answer:
Hi, Amy. If the grill is centered in its cabinet, the lid will open about 6" past the edge of 25" deep countertops.

Is this product an effective smoker as I'm looking to mainly use it for long low burns. Thanks.

Hi, Allen. The Blaze Kamado is a great choice for a smoker. If you use the top rack and partially close the exhaust vent, you'll be good to go!

Question:
Does this grill have a place to use an electric lighter? I dont like using lighter fluid and can't tell if it has a door or room to using a plug in, horseshoe style electric charcoal lighter?
Was This Helpful?
Answer:
Hi there! The bottom of the firebox has an opening for raking leftover ashes, but this is the only opening other than the top and likely wouldn't be able to fit a horeshoe style lighter through it. The ideal method for lighting the charcoal in this grill would be using a chimney starter, like this one: www.bbqguys.com/charcoal-companion/stainless-steel-charcoal-chimney-starter, or using a Looftlighter and lighting it from the top, like this one: www.bbqguys.com/looft-usa/looftlighter-charcoal-electric-lighter-and-firestarter.

Question:
Is the exterior anodized aluminum? Or simply uncoated cast aluminum?
Was This Helpful?
Answer:
The exterior and interior grill body and lid are made of uncoated, solid cast aluminum.

Asked by FloridianAnswered by Carri

Question:
What's the best way to clean the exterior? I've tried soap & vinegar; soap & water; isopropyl alcohol but still can't get rid of the fingerprints and oily hand stains left by the guys who were installing the kamado. It's a shame that it's so hard to keep the exterior from looking so grimy. Any tips appreciated.
Was This Helpful?
Answer:
When cleaning your grill, always scrub and polish in the direction of the grain. Wipe down the exterior of the grill to remove any splatter or grease. Do not use harsh abrasives. For tough spots, baked on grease and/or cleaning oxidation (the white splotches that develop on aluminum over time), clean with a mild to medium grit ( scratch resistant) scotch brite pad with a mix of vinegar and water (50/50 mix). Before covering, always allow the surface to dry. DO NOT cover a damp grill. If you are still having trouble after these tips, please feel free to give us a call at 1-877-743-2269.

Hey there! There is currently no divider available for this grill.

Question:
How many square inches are on the cooking top?
Was This Helpful?
Answer:
The cooking top is approximately 314 square inches.

Asked by EattheMeatAnswered by Carri

Question:
OK, I think I know the answer to this question, but let me ask anyway. The specs read (outside dimensions) Width 21 1/8'' and the Depth 27 7/8". The unit appears to be round in width x depth so I assume the overall maximum diameter is 21 7/8" and the depth, 27 7/8" refers to the firebox depth - as in deep?? Also, since I have your attention. How much room behind the kamado do I need to open the lid? I am building a built-in BBQ right up against an existing wall.
Was This Helpful?
Answer:
The depth refers to the front to back dimension of the grill. The depth is not the same as the width because the the measurement includes the back hinge and front handle. As far as depth clearance with the lid open, we recommend a minimum of 31-inches from the front of the grill.

Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we’ve all come to expect for small parcels, so it’s important that you’re prepared and understand what’s required of you well before delivery day.

  • Most freight products ship on a pallet
  • Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
  • We’ll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.

For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:

Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can’t be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we’ve only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.

For carriers that deliver without an appointment:

Carriers that deliver without an appointment don’t require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren’t required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you’re home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you’re out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
